Voyager Space Probe and the Pale Blue Dot Limited Edition Enamel Pin
Launched in the summer of 1977, the twin probes VOYAGER 1 and VOYAGER 2 were designed to explore the reaches of the outer solar system. Their missions around the planets of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and many of their major moons, revealed secrets and unknown details of these worlds that remain integral to our understanding of our solar system to this day. Almost 45 years later, these intrepid explorers are still sending back data from the expanse of interstellar space as they continue their journey that will take them to the stars.
After completing it's targeted mission around the gas giants of Jupiter and Saturn, it was proposed that VOYAGER 1 be positioned to take a FAMILY PORTRAIT of our solar system while it was still had the ability. Those final images sent by VOYAGER 1 captured a mosaic of the sun and six of our eight planets from 4 billion miles away. The series of photos gave us a glimpse of our solar system from a never-before-seen perspective, including the image of our own planet, which we see the Earth as a pixel-sized PALE BLUE DOT against the great expanse of space, caught among vast bands of sunlight.
This design is intended to be two unique pieces - the VOYAGER SPACE PROBE and the PALE BLUE DOT - connected by a set of decorative chains. (Individual pieces will not be sold separately.)
Each pin measures approximately 1.5-inches and has two backing posts.
