Here are a few examples of some of our previous commission work!
Our Commission Process:
For commissions, we usually start off by asking our client a few questions about what they are looking for. Some people have a very specific idea in mind, while others may only have a general idea and we want to be sure we’re hitting all the points. But we like to know the theme or feel of the piece before we get started. Is this a soft and somber memorial piece for a loved one, or is this a bold and vibrant character who slays dragons? For Terra who draws the characters themselves, she needs to know what kind of expressions and poses are appropriate, or if there are items of clothing or styles of hair that are important. And for Sarah, she likes to know about other interests and things that are important to the overall feel of the piece. Do they like to read, do they have a favorite flower or a favorite time of year, or a special phrase that is really meaningful? Is this going to be hung up in your living room and your color scheme is red and gold? We can take all that information to make things personal and special to each piece.
Generally, Terra gets started on the figure first, and she’ll get it at least 75% finished and let our client approve that before it gets passed on to Sarah. She will usually start her background work around the time the line art is finished and Terra is starting to work on the colors. She'll take the figure and build a background around it, adding in Terra’s finished character when she’s done. We like to get a final approval from our clients before we print and send off the final piece, just to make sure everything looks like what you were hoping for.
If the commission you are looking for doesn't quite fit into the categories above, you are free to contact us directly about your request and we can figure something out together.
