Named after the Roman messenger god because of the way it zips across the sky, Mercury orbits the sun faster than any planet in the solar system. A year on Mercury is only 88 days long. But it is also very tiny. The smallest of the planets in fact, it's just a little bit bigger than our moon.
You may also think that because it's so close to the sun Mercury would be the hottest planet in our solar system, but it's not. Because of it's lack of atmosphere the planet cannot regulate a consistent temperature, so the side facing the sun may sure get toasty, but the side facing the other direction loses all its heat to the vacuum of space and it gets very, very cold.
